The style of fragrance classified as Floriental was really pioneered by Guerlain with his creation L'Heure Bleue in the 1920s, providing the inspiration for Oscar de la Renta in 1976.
In 1979 the 'floriental' trend was firmly established, again by Guerlain with the launch of Nahema.
The Chypre group of fragrances owes its origins to the experience of the Crusaders returning from the Second Crusade in the eleventh century. Resting from their journeying and warring in the Middle East, they experienced new, exotic fragrances associated with the Southern Mediterranean coasts and Mediterranean islands. The word 'Chypre' is the French name for the island of Cyprus.
