A trained perfumer will remember how each of these 2,000 raw materials smell, will know how they smell when mixed with each other, and will remember how natural materials from the crop of one year will compare with a crop of a different vintage.
A skilled perfumer is like a master artist or a great chef, or an accomplished composer. He will be able to combine these fragrance notes from memory, in order to create fragrances which will enrich the lives of eventual consumers.
The status of the Perfumer first received official recognition in the 12th Century by Philip Augustus of France.
